Notes: | Craft beer in Alabama is a rare treat. In order to open a brewery in the state, by law, one must establish it in a county that had a brewery prior to Prohibition, and the facilities must be housed in a bulding eligible for the National Historic Register. In this case, the Olde Auburn Ale House was once the home of Auburn's first newspaper, the Auburn Bulletin. Being right next to Auburn University, it makes sense why they feature several guest handles to go along with the house brew, which is good in its own right. For the most part, the beer is designed to be basic enough to convert the MillCoorsBud drinker, but the beer is still interesting for the more sophisticated palate. I was surprised with the scotch and peat notes in the Catcher in the Rye and the hints of cocoa in the Black Jack schwarz. |
