Notes: | If you've got the time, I recommend that you take this tour.
Even though Anheuser Busch's popular brands make for bad beer, the tour
is worthwhile for reasons other than tasting the beer. It is just awing
to see the manufacturing process of mass produced beer. You also get a
short history of the company which is quite fascinating. I do take one
issue with it: although they do mention that AB made it through Prohibition
by packaging and selling "bakery" products, they speciously
neglect to mention that these "bakery" products mostly consisted
of malt for the purpose of making illegal homebrew. The tour gives you a good indication of why Anheuser Busch's beers are the most consistent beers in the entire industry. Everything is carefully calculated and regulated, and not only do you get to see how they operate the brewery at all stages, but you can taste the fruits of their labor, too. Not surprisingly, almost all the beers had that trademark green apple flavor that the Budweiser brand is famous for. But, not all is lost. The pumpkin ale was an interesting lighter bodied version of a typical well-crafted beer that I found very tasty. |
